Beggers have become Choosers!!
Lockdown which seems like history now came with a lot of learnings. The whole concept of a physical office turned into a virtual office. Eye makeup sold more than lipsticks due to masking. Thanks to lack of adherence lipstick businesses are again picking up. The sales of Pajama/ lowers/shorts were all-time high whereas Bra sales went down. Well amidst all these bizarre changes emanating from the most unpredictable human behavior, I noticed one very strange thing.
June 20 — “Doctor when do you think the vaccine will arrive? I think that is the only solution to this pandemic. I am so eagerly waiting for it. I am sick and tired of sitting at home all locked up. The vaccine is the only thing that will make me a free bird !!”
The scene from the movie pandemic used to flash in front of me. Will vaccines be allotted by a lottery system? Will there be riots to procure vaccines? How will we vaccinate billions of Indians ….?
Jan21 — “Oh Vaccine has arrived. Hmm, it’s good that only healthcare workers have to be jabbed initially. If something goes wrong at least I am not affected. “
“You know even if half of the people get vaccinated rest half will not need it. Why become the first half?”
“They have not even completed phase 3 trials, how can they be so sure of efficacy.”
“If it’s that much safe then politicians would have jabbed themselves first!”
“So many people have died in Europe due to Vaccination, the Pfizer one is also not working.”
“Covishield or Covaxin or should I go to Dubai and get a non-Indian vaccine.”
So overnight people who didn’t even know the T of trial and H of herd immunity became the masters of the science of vaccination. Fortunately, COVID is ebbing down (nobody knows why — many opinions on that too — well let’s keep it for some other time !!).
And Beggars have become choosers !!!
My sister got vaccinated on Day 1 (she has two kids and a family to take care and she was processing millions of tests all through COVID). My Dad got vaccinated, he is 73 and has been reading X-rays and CT of patients all through COVID and I am eagerly waiting for the Jab !!!!
