As the number of COVID cases is rising the world is moving towards social distancing. Voluntary social distancing and enforced lockdowns are prompting ‘work from home' (WFH). On a lighter note, there is a rise in a spate of WhatsApp memes on December babies arising out of the obvious intimacy owing to confinement at home. Lack of other sources of entertainment, like cinemas, malls, sports, etc. are also being believed as contributory factors.

But at one end when we are shying away from social contact with anybody and everybody and trying to maintain WHO recommended 6 ft distance. Then is an intimate act as lovemaking (read sex) safe from the perspective of the spread of the Corona Virus. Or we simply don’t want to talk about it. Well a call from one of my friends instigated this thought process and I quickly tried to put together a fact sheet…

  1. There is no evidence as of now that virus spreads through sexual contact
  2. If droplet infection can spread the disease so can saliva, so kissing definitely can spread the infection, hence limit the foreplay and avoid wet kissing
  3. Dating — definitely avoid new pursuits and focus on known devils. In this case, also, that’s a better devil. You can always pull out a page from your old relationship book and take advantage of the opportunity and time.
  4. For singles, WFH can become very lonely and depressing, So deleting the dating app is not the solution but re-explore past dates whom you can trust. Self-entertainment, in any case, is highly recommended to beat depression.
  5. Again stick to the near neighborhood and don’t encourage long travel for hanging around with your dates. Dinner dates and hanging around in public places is a strict no again
  6. For people who have stuck away from there’ significant other’ in a long-distance relationship, should stay put and use video technology, sexting, in a creative way to tide over the situation
  7. Snuggling, cuddling is not a strict NO, but please make sure that both partners maintain adequate hygiene, hand washing and are not coughing and sneezing
  8. In case one partner falls sick, then the other should stay back to help and self-quarantine, rather than infect people in the outer world

The views expressed in this advisory are excerpts from an article by a Sexual Health expert from a top-rated Univ in the USA and not a figment of the imagination . They have been tailored contextually to our surroundings !!!
